Sleep Medication

A study reviewing more than 10,000 U.S. patients showed that the mortality rate of patients taking sleeping pills for insomnia had an increased rate of mortality. As few as 18 doses had a 3.6 times greater mortality rate(Kripke, Langer, & Line, 2012). Prescription medication and especially sleep medications do have side effects that need to be considered.

If you are taking a sleep medication, the treatments to address the sleep issue may be done while taking the medications. Once the imbalances in the system are corrected a slow taper off of the medications may be indicated.
